Southern Illinois University's men's golf team completed the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, finishing 11th out of 13 teams. The team recorded a score of 903 (+39), with Kansas taking the tournament win with 837 (-27). Head coach Justin Fetcho expressed dissatisfaction, stating, "Conditions were tough, and we didn't handle it well. We didn't have the resiliency or toughness needed to handle the adversity of the golf course and the conditions this week. I told the team that starts at the top and I have to do a better job of accountability and discipline every day so that we are ready for days like this."

Anthony De Schutter showed strength during the competition, tying for 13th with a score of 217 (+1). His performance included a strong start, with scores of 70 (-2) in round one and 71 (-1) in round two. De Schutter's current stroke average stands at 71.33 for the season.

Other team members' finishes were as follows: Oliver Ulrich finished tied for 52nd (+12, 228), Leon Heitz and Frank Bellino tied for 61st (+16, 232), Carsen Silliman was 71st (+21, 237), and Cy Norman placed 74th (+26, 242). Notable performances included rounds under par by De Schutter and even-par rounds by Ulrich and Bellino.

"We have to find a way to dig deep and get ready for next week," Fetcho said, emphasizing the need for preparation before the coming tournament.

The team's next challenge is the MVC Championship in West Des Moines, Iowa, on Sunday, April 20. Southern Illinois aims to defend its Valley crown at this event. Followers can keep up with the team's progress on their social media platforms.
