Another busy week unfolded in Springfield as House Committees prepared to hear bills by the "3rd Reading" deadline. Lawmakers engaged in long evenings filled with debates and votes on various proposals. Adding to the activity, 8th-grade students from Shawnee School and FFA students from Dongola and Elverado visited the State Capitol to observe the legislative process.

"3rd Reading" signifies a critical stage in the legislative process where proposals undergo final review before passage. These hearings and debates are part of an essential democratic practice wherein elected officials consider bills that may impact their constituents.

The visit of young students highlights the importance of civic education and awareness in young minds. Engaging with the actual legislative process offers firsthand insight into how laws and decisions are made at the state level. The presence of students from Shawnee School, as well as FFA members from Dongola and Elverado, underscores the educational initiatives aimed at cultivating informed future citizens.
