Southern Illinois Women's Golf team concluded their participation in the Huntsville.org Intercollegiate with an 11th-place finish on Tuesday in Huntsville, Alabama. The team’s strongest performance was during the first round on Monday, where they shot a score of 323. Kayla Sayyalinh led the Salukis by tying for 31st place.
Despite facing challenges throughout the week, Head Coach Rory Weinfurther remains optimistic about the team's ability to progress. "I think we just have to move forward," Weinfurther stated. "Talk about what we want to do better next time mentally and physically."
The individual results for the Saluki golfers were as follows:
- Team: 11th, 983 (+119)
- Kayla Sayyalinh: Tied for 31st, 240 (+24)
- Allie Santos: Tied for 44th, 247 (+31)
- Pihla Pennanen: Tied for 52nd, 253 (+37)
- Calli Smith: Tied for 56th, 254 (+38)
- Ella Overstreet: Tied for 58th, 255 (+39)
Coach Weinfurther emphasized that there is still much work ahead as they prepare for upcoming conference play. "We still have a lot of golf to play to be ready for conference," he added.
Looking ahead, the Salukis will participate in their next event at the Clover Cup in Litchfield, Arizona, starting Monday, March 10.
