Southern Illinois wins golds on first day of MVC swim championships

The Women's Missouri Valley Conference Swim and Dive Championships commenced in Waukee, Iowa, with Southern Illinois University (SIU) securing victories in both relay events on the opening night. The SIU team not only claimed gold but also set new program, MVC, and championship records.

The first event of the evening was the 200-medley relay. The SIU team, consisting of Celia Pulido, Olivia Herron, Bea Padron, and Susanna Hernandez, completed their swim in 1:36.84. This performance earned them a gold medal and established a new record for the program, MVC, and the championship.

In the 800-yard freestyle relay, SIU's squad continued their success by finishing first with a time of 7:12.16. This time also set new records for the program, MVC, and championship. The team members were Hernandez, Padron, Herron, and Pulido.

Day two of the Women's MVC Championships is scheduled to begin with preliminaries at 10:30 a.m., followed by finals at 6 p.m.
