In a recent women's basketball game, Southern Illinois University (SIU) faced a challenging defeat against Drake University, losing 82-40. The match took place in Des Moines, Iowa, marking the first of a four-game road trip for the Salukis.
The game started unfavorably for SIU as they fell behind early with a score of 27-11 by the end of the first quarter and 48-20 at halftime. The team struggled to score, managing only single-digit points in both the second and third quarters.
SIU's shooting percentages were 28.6% from the field, 30.8% from beyond the arc, and 80.0% from the free throw line. In contrast, Drake performed strongly with a shooting percentage of 55.9%, including an impressive 64.7% in the first quarter and 69.2% in the third quarter.
The Salukis were out-rebounded by Drake with a count of 36-24 and committed more turnovers—19 compared to Drake's 12.
No SIU player scored in double figures during this game. Senior Tyranny Brown and freshman Isabella Palmqvist led their team with nine points each against Drake's Bulldogs. Brown also contributed two steals, three assists, and two three-pointers.
Junior Gift Uchenna achieved a team-high seven rebounds and added eight points to her team's efforts.
Looking ahead, SIU will quickly return to action on Saturday as they travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa, to compete against Northern Iowa at 2 p.m.
