Southern Illinois University's Alec Nigut has been recognized as the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, according to an announcement made by the League office on Tuesday. This marks Nigut's first weekly accolade from The Valley.
In his debut start for the 2025 season, Nigut delivered a strong performance with five no-hit innings against Texas Rio Grande Valley. The senior left-hander recorded six strikeouts and allowed only two baserunners through walks, contributing significantly to the Salukis' 7-2 victory.
Hailing from Des Moines, Iowa, Nigut concluded the 2024 season with a record of 4-1 over nine starts. During that period, he amassed 41 strikeouts across 57.1 innings pitched.
The Salukis are scheduled to play their next series against Tennessee Tech starting Friday.
