Southern Illinois faces challenging home game against Missouri State

The Southern Illinois University (SIU) women's basketball team is set to continue its four-game homestand with a match against Missouri State on Thursday at 6 p.m. The Salukis, who hold a record of 4-17 overall and 2-10 in conference play, will host the game in Carbondale, Illinois.

Fans can watch the game on ESPN+ with commentary from Dominic Hoscher and Saluki Hall of Famer Jamaal Tatum. Larry Larson will provide the radio call on NewsRadio WJPF 107.9 FM.

Southern Illinois recently suffered an 87-63 defeat against Indiana State, dropping their conference standing to ninth in scoring offense and twelfth in scoring defense. Despite these challenges, Gift Uchenna has been recognized as the MVC Newcomer of the Week for her performance, averaging 16 points and 16.5 rebounds over two games.

The Salukis rank second in the MVC for blocks per game and lead in offensive rebounding. Notably, Uchenna leads the Valley in several categories including scoring and rebounding.

Missouri State enters the contest with a strong record of 18-5 overall and 10-2 in conference play. The Lady Bears are positioned second in both scoring defense within the MVC standings.

Historically, SIU has faced Missouri State 95 times, holding a record of 31-64 against them. In their last encounter on January 12th, Missouri State defeated SIU with a score of 75-37.
