A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Williamson County Clerk & Elections Division on February 5, 2025. The request was made by us at Carbondale Reporter, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The FOIA request seeks detailed information about all candidates running in the upcoming election. Specifically, we asked for each candidate's first, middle, and last name; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; party affiliation; and their contact information including address, phone number, and email address.
As a news organization, we believe in the importance of transparency in public institutions. Access to such public records allows us to hold these institutions accountable and provide our readers with clear and precise information.
We have requested this information under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, and have expressed our preference for receiving it in an electronic format. We also highlighted our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional given our role in disseminating important information to the public.
Our goal is to ensure that our readers are well-informed about their choices in the upcoming elections. By providing detailed profiles of each candidate, we hope to contribute towards an informed electorate capable of making sound decisions at the ballot box.
We will continue to follow up on this request and update our readers as soon as more information becomes available.
