Severin appointed to key house committees; opposes sanctuary policies

State Representative Dave Severin (R-Benton) has announced his appointments to several key committees for the 104th General Assembly. Severin will serve on the House Mental Health & Addiction Committee, Restorative Justice & Public Safety Committee, and Transportation Regulation Roads and Bridges Committee. Additionally, he will be the Republican ranking member of the House Higher Education Appropriations, Energy & Environment, and Immigration & Human Rights Committees.

Severin expressed his gratitude for these appointments, stating, "I am grateful to be appointed to serve on several committees that will consider legislation that will have a great impact on the people of Illinois." He emphasized his commitment to energy independence and his opposition to policies moving away from natural resources. He also highlighted his role as the Republican Spokesperson on the Immigration & Human Rights Committee, expressing his intent to oppose sanctuary state policies and support actions aligned with former President Trump's administration regarding immigration.

Regarding his position on the House Restorative Justice Committee, Severin stated, "The SAFE-T Act contains many problematic provisions that I think make Illinoisans less safe." He plans to support law enforcement and prioritize victims' rights over those of criminals.

Serving his fifth term as State Representative, Severin operates district offices in Benton and Mount Vernon. He can be contacted at (618) 440-5090 or via email at Severin@ILHouseGOP.org.
