State Representative Paul Jacobs from Pomona, Illinois, has introduced legislation aimed at repealing the state's sanctuary laws. He argues that these laws compromise public safety by protecting undocumented immigrants. With a shift in immigration policy under President Trump, Jacobs is pushing for the repeal of Illinois' TRUST Act and seeking public support through a petition.

Jacobs stated, “I think people across the country spoke loud and clear when they voted for President Trump, as he campaigned heavily on the issue of illegal immigration and the public safety risks it poses to our citizens and communities.” He has put forward HB 1345 to eliminate Sanctuary City and State policies in Illinois and prevent undocumented immigrants from obtaining state identification.

He criticized previous policies during the Biden Administration, claiming they led to increased crime and resource strain due to unchecked immigration. "The state of Illinois has spent billions giving cash and medical care to people who are in the country illegally," Jacobs remarked. "The time for that irresponsible policy to come to an end is now."

Jacobs is actively collecting signatures via his official website to demonstrate public backing for this legislative change. “I encourage everyone to sign my petition to end our irresponsible and dangerous Sanctuary State and Sanctuary City laws,” he urged.
