Southern Illinois University's track and field team concluded day two of the Indiana Invitational at the Gladstein Fieldhouse in Bloomington, Indiana. The event saw strong performances from several athletes.

Richard Jones, Director of Track and Field, expressed his satisfaction with the team's progress. "This weekend showed me that the team is moving in the right direction, everyone knows that there is more work to be done," he stated. He added, "Having a good competitive meet exposes something that the team will work on to get better." Jones emphasized their commitment to improvement by saying, "We will work to get better over the next few weeks."

In women's 60-meter hurdles finals on Saturday, Triniti Douglas and Trinity Cleaver maintained their leading positions from preliminaries. They were the only competitors to finish under nine seconds with times of 8.79 and 8.99 seconds respectively.

Andre Jackson II excelled in the men's 400-meter race by achieving a personal best time of 48.40 seconds, securing victory by a margin of 1.07 seconds.

The day's events concluded with the 4x400 meter relays. The women's team finished second with a time of 3:51.15 seconds while the men's team secured first place in their race with a time of 3:20.28 seconds.

Athletes who achieved personal bests included Layla Watson in women's 400m (57.05 seconds), Andre Jackson II in men's 400m (48.40), and Kyla Engel in women's 800m (2:23.20).

Looking ahead, the Salukis will compete at the Fighting Illini Challenge on Friday, January 24th in Champaign, Illinois.
