The Southern Illinois University (SIU) swimming and diving teams achieved victories in their recent meet against Little Rock and Henderson State in Little Rock, Arkansas. The men's team defeated Henderson State with a score of 200-86, while the women's team triumphed over both Little Rock and Henderson State with scores of 214-73 and 233-47, respectively.

"Another very strong day of competition for the Saluki swimmers and divers in Little Rock today," said head coach Geoff Hanson. "With two more competitions remaining for women and just one more for the men, we feel good about where we are as a team."

The Salukis had an impressive performance with 67 podium finishes across 32 events. They claimed all three podium spots seven times during the meet. A total of 27 first-place finishes were recorded by SIU athletes.

Celia Pulido, Olivia Herron, Willem Huggins, and Alex Santiago each secured four gold medals, tying them for the lead in individual golds at the event.

In diving events, Farida Moussa and Audrey Leno placed second and third in the women's one-meter dive. AJ Stone won first place in the men's one-meter dive with a career-best score of 219.30.

In swimming events, notable performances included Apryl Paquette's victory in the women's 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:33.18. Joshua Aceves added another win for SIU in the men's category of the same event.

Pulido led another sweep for SIU in the women's 100-yard backstroke with her time meeting NCAA's provisional "B" standard at 52.94 seconds. Herron also met NCAA standards in her winning swim during the women's 100-yard breaststroke.

Career-best performances were seen from several athletes including Henrique Pacheco Januario who clocked his best time at 55.41 seconds to win the men's 100-yard breaststroke.

Brooklyn Anderson set a new personal record to win the women's 200-yard butterfly event at a time of 2:04.17 while Santiago reached NCAA "B" standard timing with his win in men's events.

The day concluded successfully for SIU as they dominated various relay races including both men's and women's categories.

Looking ahead, SIU will host Eastern Illinois on Saturday afternoon for Senior Day festivities starting at noon after morning distance swims scheduled earlier that day.
