The Southern Illinois University (SIU) men's and women's swimming and diving teams are set to compete at Indiana State after a break of over a month. The women's team will face Indiana State and the University of Indianapolis (UIndy), while the men's team will take on UIndy and Ball State. The meet is scheduled for Friday, January 8, at 1 p.m. at the Vigo County Aquatic Center.

During their last competition at the Purdue Invitational from November 21-23, SIU athletes achieved several notable results. Senior Celia Pulido set a new school record in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.88 seconds. Pulido, along with Olivia Herron, Bea Padron, and Susanna Hernandez, established program records in both the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard medley relay, with the latter also setting a Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) record.

Herron secured gold in the 200-yard individual medley, while Alex Santiago won first place in the men's 50-yard freestyle. Tiago Faleiros, Nicolas Lanuza, Aj Terry, and Willem Huggins achieved a podium finish in the men's 400-yard medley.

On day two of the invitational, Herron broke another school and MVC record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.17. Santiago continued his strong performance by winning gold in both the 100-yard butterfly and as part of the men's 200-yard freestyle relay team.

The final day saw Herron break yet another record in the 200-yard breaststroke with her time of 2:09.13. Pulido was part of a relay team that set new MVC and school records in both the women's events they participated in.

Alex Santiago was recognized as MVC Men's Swimmer of the Week following his performance at Purdue Invitational where he earned four first-place finishes across various events.
