Southern Illinois basketball player Rolyns Aligbe has been recognized as the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week. The announcement was made by the League office on Monday afternoon.
Aligbe, hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota, started his first career game for the Salukis during their road match against Northern Iowa on Sunday. He contributed seven points and led his team with eight rebounds despite Southern's loss.
Currently, Aligbe is averaging 4.3 points and 4.1 rebounds over 14 minutes per game this season. He has scored five or more points in six games and achieved a season-high of 10 rebounds during an away game at Florida.
Southern Illinois is set to play against Evansville at Banterra Center on Wednesday at 1 p.m. CT to celebrate New Year's Day. Tickets for this event start at $4 with no additional fees.
