Southern Illinois University's track and field program concluded the Saluki Fast Start event at the SIU Recreation Center. Director of Track and Field Richard Jones expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, stating, "It was a good showing today for the men's and women's teams, all of the fall training led to this first meet and I think the athletes did well."
The second day began with Dyson Roye finishing second in the pole vault with a 4.65-meter height. In women's shot-put, freshman Elise Green also secured a second-place finish with a 13.51-meter throw.
Christian Coleman achieved victories in both the men's 60-meter hurdles and high jump events. After qualifying in 8.19 seconds for the hurdles, he improved his time by .04 seconds in the finals to win. He then won the high jump with a 1.95-meter leap. Jumps coach Jake Brydson remarked on Coleman's quick transition between events: "Christian's 10-minute turnaround from his hurdle victory to his high jump victory leaves you as a coach awestruck."
Darius Fuller excelled in triple jump, securing first place with a 15.04-meter jump length, which ranks him number 11 in NCAA standings according to Brydson.
Jadon Robertson emerged victorious in the heptathlon with 4,708 points.
In track events, Kyle Burgoni tied for third place in school history during the men's 60-meter dash semi-final with a time of 6.83 seconds, while Jacob Morrison finished second in the final at 6.96 seconds.
The men's team dominated the leaderboard in the men's 200-meter dash; Christian Donatelli won it with a time of 22.60 seconds.
Iaunia Pointer led her team by winning four out of five top spots in women's 200-meter dash clocking at 24.60 seconds.
Briana Nieset took first place for women’s one-mile run completing it within just over five minutes (5:04:33), followed closely by Hannah Meiser who placed second clocking around two more than that duration(5:06:56). On men’s side Uriah Guthrie came third trailing winner Owen Morgan by nearly seventeen-second margin (16 :69).
