Southern Illinois women's basketball falls short against Southeast Missouri State

The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team faced a challenging game on the road against Southeast Missouri State (SEMO), resulting in a 70-58 loss. Despite trailing by just one point at halftime, the Salukis were outscored 39-28 in the second half, leading to SEMO's victory.

Southern Illinois had shooting percentages of 32.79% from the field, 27.78% from beyond the arc, and 65.00% from the free throw line during the game. Isabella Palmqvist led her team with 16 points, hitting six out of eleven field goals and three out of seven three-point attempts. She also contributed three steals.

SEMO started strong, leading SIU by a score of 16-13 after the first quarter as Southern Illinois struggled with a shooting performance of just three out of eleven from the field. The Salukis improved their efficiency in the second quarter with a shooting percentage of 40%, scoring 17 points compared to SEMO's 15, yet they still trailed by one point at halftime with a scoreline of 31-30.

In the third quarter, SEMO began to extend their lead significantly by outscoring SIU 23-14 while achieving a field-goal percentage of 55.6%. Conversely, Southern Illinois shot only 30% and made two out of six attempts from deep.

The final quarter saw continued offensive struggles for Southern Illinois as they managed only fourteen points on a field-goal percentage of 33.3%, concluding with a twelve-point defeat.

Besides Palmqvist's contribution, Tkiyah Nelson and Gift Uchenna each scored eleven points for SIU, while Alice Curman added ten points. Uchenna also secured twelve rebounds and four blocks during the game.

With this result, Southern Illinois now holds a record of one win and four losses for this season. They are set to return home for their next game against Central Methodist on Monday, December 2nd at an event dubbed 'Elementary Field Trip Day'.
