Southern Illinois women's basketball faces SEMO aiming for second season win

The Southern Illinois University (SIU) women's basketball team, currently holding a 1-3 record, is set to face Southeast Missouri State (SEMO) on Monday at 6:30 p.m. The game will be available for viewing on ESPN+ and can be listened to via Larry Larson's radio call on NewsRadio WJPF 107.9 FM.

SIU recently achieved its first victory of the season against IU Indy with an 85-80 win, improving their shooting statistics significantly in the process. Key player Gift Uchenna scored 34 points and secured 17 rebounds during this match, marking a notable performance in the program's history.

"Gift Uchenna led the way for SIU," highlighting her substantial contribution to the team's efforts. Her achievements have earned her MVC Newcomer of the Week honors.

Currently ranked ninth in scoring defense within the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC), SIU allows an average of 73.5 points per game while ranking eleventh in scoring offense with an average of 57.8 points per game.

Kelly Bond-White continues her third season as head coach with a current overall record of 24-42, accompanied by new staff members Greg Brown and Peyton Thevenot.

The SEMO Redhawks are seeking their first win after starting the season with four losses. Their recent defeat was against Eastern Kentucky with a scoreline of 89-61. Zoe Best leads SEMO’s scoring efforts, averaging 15 points per game.

In historical encounters between these teams, SIU holds a significant lead with a series record of 33-7 over SEMO.
