Southern Illinois women's basketball seeks first win against IU Indy

The Southern Illinois University (SIU) women's basketball team is set to face IU Indy on Saturday, aiming to break a three-game losing streak. The game will take place at 4 p.m. and can be viewed on ESPN+. Larry Larson will provide the radio commentary on NewsRadio WJPF 107.9 FM.

Following a recent 79-66 defeat against Louisiana Monroe, SIU holds a record of 0-3. Despite the loss, the team demonstrated shooting efficiency with a field-goal percentage of 43.4%, a three-point percentage of 53.3%, and a free throw percentage of 70.59%. The Salukis scored their season-high of 28 points in the third quarter during this game.

Key players for SIU include Gift Uchenna, who led with 16 points against ULM, Tyranny Brown with her strongest performance scoring 14 points recently, and Isabella Palmqvist who has consistently scored in double figures over the last two games.

Currently ranked ninth in the Missouri Valley Conference for holding opponents to an average of 71.3 points per game, SIU is also tied for third in blocks and fourth in steals within the league.

IU Indy stands at a record of 1-2 after losing to Purdue on Thursday but began their season with a win against Evansville. The Jaguars are averaging 76 points per game while allowing an average of 82.7 points per game.

This upcoming match marks the sixth meeting between SIU and IU Indy, with IU Indy leading historically at three wins to two losses against SIU.
