The Southern Illinois men's swimming and diving team concluded the first day of the MAC Championship with notable achievements, setting three new school records and securing two second-place finishes.
Alex Santiago made headlines by setting a new program and pool record during the morning's time trials. Santiago completed the 100-yard freestyle in 42.70 seconds, surpassing the previous record of 43.13 seconds held by fellow Saluki Donat Csuvarszki.
In Wednesday night's finals session, both Saluki relay teams finished in second place while also setting new school records. The 200-yard medley relay team, comprising Jered Moore, Tiago Faleiros, Nicolas Lanuza, and Alex Santiago, clocked a time of 1:25.84, breaking the previous program record of 1:27.06. Additionally, the 800-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Tomas Peciar, Alex Cimera, Will Chavez, and Jered Moore finished with a time of 8:29.25.
The MAC Championship will continue on Thursday with preliminary sessions starting at 10:30 a.m., followed by finals at 6 p.m. All sessions are available for viewing on the MAC website and results can be tracked via Meet Mobile.
