FOIA Request to City Of Marion Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 25, 2024.

The Carbondale Reporter, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, has submitted a request for records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act. The request specifically asks for data concerning sales tax collected from retailers since the start of the year until the present date.

In detail, we are seeking information about sales tax collected from retailers by month compared to projections, the number of active retail locations paying sales tax each month, and the names of each retailer along with their gross retail sales reported each month.

As a media organization, our role is to gather and report news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

We look forward to receiving this information from the City Of Marion Finance Department in order to provide our readers with an accurate understanding of local government affairs.
