The Southern Illinois University women's soccer team concluded its regular season with a 2-0 defeat against Evansville. The match took place on Sunday in Evansville, Indiana.
During the first half, both teams struggled to create scoring opportunities initially. The Salukis out-shot the Aces 5-2 but failed to score. Evansville took advantage of a corner kick in the 39th minute to lead 1-0 at halftime.
In the second half, Evansville increased their lead with a goal in the 59th minute. Southern Illinois managed three shots during this period, with McKinley Stiff having the best chance from a free kick in the 64th minute. Despite their efforts, the Salukis were unable to score before the end of the game.
Goalkeeper Fabiana Solano made one save and was on the field for the entire match duration.
"The ladies made the conference tournament for only the second time in history. Great achievement," said head coach Graeme Orr.
The Salukis will start their postseason on Thursday, October 31, at 5:30 p.m. in Nashville, Tennessee, facing Indiana State.
