Southern Illinois University's volleyball team faced a tough match against Murray State, resulting in a five-set loss at Davies Gym. The Salukis now hold a 10-12 overall record and are 3-8 in their conference.
Larissa Seger led the Salukis with 14 kills and achieved a .393 hitting percentage. Kelly Franklin and Annabelle Sulish both recorded double-doubles, with Franklin securing 12 kills and 15 digs, while Sulish contributed 12 kills and 23 digs. Eva Krakwoski added to the effort with 11 kills and six blocks.
The team's overall hitting percentage was .223, falling short of Murray State's .282. Lily Burnett stood out for the Racers with a match-high of 19 kills along with 10 digs.
Murray State started strong, winning the first set 25-20 after gaining an early lead. Southern Illinois responded by taking the second set 25-23 through multiple ties and lead changes. However, Murray State regained control in the third set with a score of 25-18.
In the fourth set, Southern Illinois showed resilience by achieving a .448 attacking percentage to win 26-16, forcing a fifth set. Despite an early lead in the final set, the Salukis were unable to maintain momentum as Murray State tied it up and ultimately secured victory due to an SIU attack error.
Murray State improved their season record to 12-8 overall and stands at 7-4 in their conference following this match.
