Southern Illinois University's football team is set to face Indiana State this Saturday, following a bye week. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ at 12 p.m. CT. Southern Illinois, also known as the Salukis, currently holds a record of 2-5 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

The Salukis have endured a challenging schedule, recognized as the toughest among FCS teams by both Massey power ratings and WarrenNolan.com. Recently, they completed a series of five consecutive games against ranked opponents, securing one victory against No. 12 Incarnate Word.

Indiana State has had some success at home this season with a record of 2-1, including a win over Murray State earlier this month.

Historically, Southern Illinois has been successful against Indiana State in recent matchups. They have won their last three meetings with the Sycamores and their last three games at Memorial Stadium in Terre Haute.

A notable development for Southern Illinois is true freshman quarterback Jake Curry's first start on October 12th against North Dakota State. Curry stepped in for injured starter Hunter Simmons and threw for 152 yards.

In light of injuries affecting three out of four quarterbacks on the team, Michael Lindauer was activated after receiving an NCAA waiver. Lindauer had retired from playing to become a graduate assistant coach but will now return to active duty.

During their recent matchup with North Dakota State, Southern Illinois held them to their lowest yardage total this season but ultimately lost the game after committing their first fumble of the year.

Looking ahead, Southern Illinois will host Youngstown State on November 9th for Military Appreciation Day.

Wide receiver Keontez Lewis leads his conference in receiving yards per game while linebacker Ben Bogle ranks second nationally in tackles for loss.

Despite dropping out of national rankings after losing to Illinois State in Week 6, several players continue to make significant contributions on both offense and defense for the Salukis this season.
