The Southern Illinois University women's soccer team faced a narrow defeat against Missouri State, with a final score of 1-0 on Thursday. The match took place in Carbondale, Illinois.

"Proud of the team, disappointed in the final outcome," said head coach Graeme Orr. "The girls were fighting and backing up their units, and that's all we can ask for."

During the first half, Missouri State was quick to make an attempt at goal within the opening minute. The Salukis found themselves out-shot by Missouri State with a 6-2 count. Dana Cruz had a notable opportunity for Southern Illinois with a shot-on-goal that was saved by the opposing goalkeeper. Both teams remained goalless by halftime.

In the second half, both teams struggled to find scoring opportunities until late in the game. Missouri State broke through in the 86th minute when Kaeli Benedict scored from a free kick, securing a late lead for her team. Saluki defender Marta Forne attempted to level the score two minutes later but did not succeed.

Southern Illinois goalkeeper Fabiana Solano made three saves during the match. Seven players from Southern Illinois played throughout all 90 minutes of the game.

Looking ahead, Southern Illinois will travel to Nashville, Tennessee, to compete against Belmont on Sunday, October 20.
