The Southern Illinois University (SIU) women's soccer team faced a setback on Sunday, losing 2-1 to the University of Northern Iowa (UNI). The match took place in Carbondale, Illinois, with SIU now holding a season record of 6-3-5.

Head coach Graeme Orr reflected on the game, stating, "I think they showed their experience and capitalized on it. When you look at the number of opportunities we had, we just didn't capitalize and show enough quality in the final third to get something from it."

Northern Iowa started strong, registering the first shot within two minutes and securing a lead by the eighth minute. Despite out-shooting UNI 7-5 in the first half, SIU struggled to score.

In the second half, UNI extended their lead with another goal in the 54th minute. The Salukis responded six minutes later when McKensey Bunch scored her fourth goal of the season. Kylie McDermott assisted Bunch's goal, marking her second assist this season. SIU made eight shots in this half but failed to equalize.

Goalkeeper Fabiana Solano made one save against six shots faced, three of which were on target. Solano was among five Salukis who played the entire match.

Looking ahead, SIU will play Missouri State at home on Thursday, October 17th at 6 p.m.
