The Southern Illinois University women's soccer team ended their match against UIC with a 0-0 draw on Thursday. The game, held in Chicago, saw the Salukis bring their season record to 5-2-5.
Head coach Graeme Orr expressed satisfaction with the result, stating, "I'm happy with a point on the road. I thought we created our best opportunities in the first period and showed resilience in the second period."
In the first half, Southern Illinois took four shots within ten minutes, two of which were by McKensey Bunch but missed the target. The Salukis managed seven shots in total during this half but failed to convert any into goals. UIC outshot them slightly with eight attempts; however, neither team scored before halftime.
The second half proved challenging for Southern Illinois offensively as they only managed one shot and no corner kicks. UIC controlled much of this period's play with eight shots and five corner kicks. By the end of the match, UIC had secured 11 corner kicks compared to just one from Southern Illinois.
Goalkeeper Fabiana Solano played a crucial role by making eight saves that kept UIC from scoring. Lucy Horn continued her streak by playing her 12th consecutive full game.
Looking ahead, the Salukis will continue their away games on Sunday when they face Valparaiso at 1 p.m.
