The Southern Illinois University women's soccer team secured a 1-0 victory against Murray State on Sunday, marking their first Missouri Valley Conference win of the season. The game was held in Carbondale, Illinois.
Head coach Graeme Orr commented on the significance of the day: "I think Senior Day was the catalyst for us to go on and really show our grit and fight for each other," he said. "I thought we got ourselves in the lead and deserved the points."
Maycie Massingill scored her second goal of the season in the 25th minute, which proved to be the game-winner. In the first half, Southern Illinois had four shots with two coming from Massingill.
During the second half, Southern Illinois managed two shots with one shot-on-goal by McKensey Bunch. Despite being out-shot by Murray State, who had seven shots and five shots-on-goal, they failed to score an equalizer.
Goalkeeper Fabiana Solano made 10 saves during the match. Solano, along with Lucy Horn and Dory Latenser, played all 90 minutes.
Southern Illinois will next face UIC in Chicago on October 3 at 6 p.m.
