Southern Illinois cross-country teams to compete at Mizzou Gans Creek Classic

The Southern Illinois University (SIU) men's and women's cross-country teams are set to compete at the Mizzou Gans Creek Classic on Friday, Sept. 27. The event will take place at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, Missouri. The men's 8K race is scheduled for 8:00 a.m., followed by the women's 6K race at 8:45 a.m.

The SIU men's team comprises five runners: freshmen Ben Chance, Will Foltz, and Owen Morgan; junior Westen Jokerst; and graduate student Uriah Guthrie. The women's team includes eight runners: freshmen Kyla Engel, Rae Kawalec, Riley Linville, and Ally Niedfeldt; sophomores Brodie Denny and Hannah Meiser; junior Audrey Boles; and senior Brianna Nieset.

The Salukis head into this competition after participating in the Bradley Intercollegiate on Friday, Sept. 20. Both teams achieved fourth-place finishes with notable individual performances. In the women's three-mile race, Hannah Meiser and Audrey Boles finished closely together in the 23rd and 24th spots with times of 18:34.00 and 18:35.00 respectively. For the men’s team, Westen Jokerst was the top performer in their 8K race, finishing in 22nd place with a time of 26:49.80.
