The Southern Illinois men's and women's cross-country teams are set to compete at the Bradley Intercollegiate on Friday, September 20th, at Detweiller Park in Peoria, Illinois. The men's 8K race will commence at 5:15 p.m., followed by the women's three-mile race at 6 p.m.
The men's team includes seven runners: freshmen Ben Chance, Will Foltz, and Owen Morgan; junior Westen Jokerst; seniors Josh Delgado and Vincent Van Eck; and graduate Uriah Guthrie.
The women's team comprises ten runners: freshmen Kyla Engel, Rae Kawalec, Riley Linville, and Ally Niedfeldt; sophomores Brodie Denny and Hannah Meiser; junior Audrey Boles; seniors Ansley Bailey and Brianna Nieset; and graduate transfer Hannah Eastman.
Coach Angelina Ramos will make her coaching debut for the Salukis after joining the team on September 16th, 2024. Ramos aims to build on a strong performance at the SEMO RedHawks XC Invite.
Senior Uriah Guthrie and freshman Will Foltz were top finishers for the men's team at SEMO. Guthrie secured fourth place with a time of 15:46.749, while Foltz finished seventh with a time of 15:52.245. The men's team placed third out of eight teams with a total of 77 points.
For the women's team, graduate transfer Hannah Eastman led with a second-place finish in her Saluki debut, clocking in at 18:04.501. Senior Brianna Nieset finished fifth with a time of 18:54.783, followed by sophomore Hannah Meiser in eighth place with a time of 18:59.179. Freshman Rae Kawalec was the top freshman runner for the Salukis, finishing in 11th place. The women's team secured second place out of nine teams with a total of 45 points.
