The Southern Illinois Track and Field program has announced the hiring of two assistant coaches, Angelina Ramos and Deshawn Marshall, for the 2024-2025 season.

"I am confident in the abilities of the new coaches to lead our men and women to a championship caliber program," said Director of Track and Field Richard Jones. "The passion and energy these coaches bring are a tremendous asset to the program."

Angelina Ramos will serve as the head coach for the cross-country program and will assist with distance events in track and field. Ramos brings significant experience, having previously coached at Ball State University and UNLV.

"I was drawn to working with Director Jones due to his reputation in the sport," Ramos stated. "Getting the opportunity to work with the tremendous men and women that compete for the Salukis was also a major factor."

Ramos added, "The facilities that Southern Illinois offers for our athletes provide the resources we need to make Saluki track and field a top-tier national contender."

Deshawn Marshall Jr. will take on the role of assistant sprint coach. Hailing from Columbus, Ohio, Marshall is Ohio State's all-condition fastest 100m runner ever with a time of 10.05 seconds. He began his coaching career in 2020 at Florida A&M, followed by a stint at Cumberlands in 2021.

"I look forward to working alongside Director Jones due to the high level of success he has achieved and the deep knowledge that he offers," Marshall commented. "Getting the chance to work with a talented group that the Salukis offer will allow us to reach our goals."

Marshall continued, "I have championship-level expectations for this group. Getting the program over the hump of winning our conference and achieving awards for our athletes."
