Sophia Schlicklin and Marta Forne of the Southern Illinois University women's soccer team have both earned weekly honors from the Missouri Valley Conference, as announced on Tuesday by the league.
Sophia Schlicklin was named Freshman of the Week, while Marta Forne received the Defensive Player of the Week accolade.
Schlicklin had two goals and an assist last week for the Salukis. She scored her first goal for SIU on Thursday, Aug. 22, against Southeast Missouri State. Schlicklin's goal was the only one in the game, securing a 1-0 victory over the Redhawks. On Sunday, Aug. 25, against IU-Indianapolis, she recorded her first assist and second goal of the season. The Salukis defeated the Jaguars 3-1.
Forne has started in all four games for SIU this season. Last week against Southeast Missouri State and IU-Indianapolis, Forne recorded three shots, two shots-on-goal, and one goal. Her goal came during Sunday's match against IU-Indianapolis.
