CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University women's soccer team (2-0-2) secured its second consecutive win of the season against IU-Indianapolis. The Salukis defeated the Jaguars, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon.

"I just thought tactically we were really good today and were able to go deep to the bench and we had our chance," head coach Graeme Orr said.

The Salukis scored two unanswered goals against the Jaguars. SIU opened the scoring in the 21st minute with Marta Forne finding the back of the net. Forne's goal was assisted by McKensey Bunch and Sophia Schlicklin.

The score remained 1-0 until the 64th minute when Brooklyn Maier scored with an assist from Kylie McDermott, giving SIU a 2-0 lead. Seven minutes later, Schlicklin scored to put the Salukis up 3-0. The goal was the freshman's second of the campaign.

In the 88th minute, IU-Indianapolis managed to connect on an attack and avoid a shutout. The final score after 90 minutes was 3-1.

Fabiana Solano started in her fourth game for Southern Illinois. Solano faced four shots on goal and made three saves.

The Salukis will be back in action on Thursday, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m. at Missouri-Kansas City.
