CARBONDALE, Ill. - The SIU Women's Golf program announced the signing of Pihla Pennanen on Tuesday.

"We are extremely excited to add Pihla to the Saluki family," Director of Golf Justin Fetcho said. "She has a ton of international experience and is one of the top junior players in Finland."

The Kerava native joins the Salukis as an incoming freshman. She won the Global Junior Golf event in June with scores of 76-74-72 and finished sixth in the Finnish U21 Nationals this summer.

"We believe Pihla's best golf is still in front of her," Fetcho said. "We know she will come here and continue to improve her overall golf game and we look forward to watching her make an immediate impact on our program."

Pennanen ranks fourth in the Finnish Junior Amateur Rankings and 2,794th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.

She has participated in ice hockey and gymnastics. Her parents are Jukka and Sari, and she has one younger sister.
