CARBONDALE, Ill. — The Missouri Valley Football Conference announced its academic honor roll for 2023, which includes 51 players from Southern Illinois. Among the Saluki honorees are Jake Baumgarte, Joe Brumleve, Derek Harden Jr., Ross Pedro, and Cal Weidemann, who received the league's President's Council Academic Excellence Award.

The President's Council Academic Excellence Award requires a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average (through fall 2023 semester) and participation in athletics for at least two years. The student-athlete must be scheduled to graduate by the end of summer 2024.

The league's Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award necessitates a minimum GPA of 3.2 for the previous two semesters (freshmen are not eligible), while the Honor Roll includes student-athletes who recorded a minimum 3.0 grade point average. More than 700 student-athletes earned honor roll recognition across the conference.
