Johnston City Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education met Nov. 14.

The Board of Education of the Johnston City Community Unit School District No. 1 met at a regular Board meeting held on November 14, 2023 with the Public Hearing for the E-Learning Program (Emergency Days) beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Unit Office, 1113 Grand Avenue, Johnston City, IL. Vice President Chad Barras called the meeting to order and asked the clerk for the attendance roll call.

Motion made by John Etherton and seconded by Patti Martin to conduct the Public Hearing for the E-Learning Program (Emergency Days) at 7:01 p.m.
Voting Aye: Dean, Etherton, Martin, McIntosh, Van, and Barras
Motion Carried.

Vice President Chad Barras called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m. and asked the clerk for the attendance roll call.

Motion made by Randy McIntosh and seconded by John Etherton to approve the consent agenda consisting of the following:
- Approval of Regular Session Minutes of the 10/19/23 Regular Meeting and the Regular Session Minutes of the 11/2/23 Special Meeting
- Approval of Treasurer’s Report
- Approval of Bills for Payment
- Approve JCEA Seniority List
- Approve Non-Certified Seniority List
Motion Carried.
Mrs. Clark informed the Board that the construction for Jefferson School Phases 3 and 4 are on hold at this time.
Mrs. Clark updated the Board that she is currently waiting on the contract with the new architect firm, Architechniques Limited.
The Board recognized the JCHS Illinois State Scholars Gavin Abernathy, Ava Anderson, Carsyn Clark, and Kailor Durham.
Mrs. Lori Linton, Director of Finance and Accounting, presented the estimated tax levy.
Motion made by John Etherton and seconded by Randy McIntosh to approve the Estimated Tax Levy.

Motion made by John Etherton and seconded by Jimmy Dean to approve the E-Learning Program (Emergency Days).

The approval of the contract with Architechniques was tabled.
A special meeting will be held at 5:30 pm on Monday, November 20, 2023.
Motion made by John Etherton and seconded by Patti Martin to approve the School Maintenance Grant to install safety/security film on all first floor windows at every school and to replace the 4 ft. chain-link fence at Jefferson with a 6 ft. steel security fence.

Motion made by Jimmy Dean and seconded by Patti Martin to approve the High School Dance Team overnight trip to the IDTA State Competition in Springfield, IL on February 9 - 11, 2024.

The first reading of the IASB PRESS Policy Updates was held.
Mr. Pietrantoni presented information regarding the High School Mentor Program and the SAT preparation.
Motion made by Randy McIntosh and seconded by John Van to approve the medical leave of absence for Erica Whitehead, to approve the transfer request from Dennis Lawrence to move from Jefferson School Crossing Guard to Washington Middle School Crossing Guard, and to post the High School Guidance Counselor position.

Mrs. Smiley informed the Board that at team of 3rd Grade students and a team of 4th Grade students competed at the Brain Games presented by ROE 21. The 4th Grade team won 1st place and advanced to the next competition at Rend Lake College in March.
The December Board meeting will be held at 6:00 pm on December 19, 2023.
The District Music Concert will be held on December 19, 2023 at 7:00 pm.
The Meet the Indians Winter Showcase will be held on Friday, November 17th at the High School beginning at 5:00 pm.
The High School received the Gold Recognition of Excellence for their FAFSA completions.
The new “purple” bus route started on Monday, November 13th.
Mrs. Clark has applied for a Grant Writing Assistance Grant.
