2022 Parolees Recap: Who was paroled in Jackson County?

There were 54 offenders released on parole during 2022 that live in Jackson County, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by Carbondale Reporter.

The data shows 45 men and nine women were released in Jackson County. Of the parolees, three were veterans, and the median age was 36. The youngest parolee was a 20-year-old woman convicted of a crime involving one or more weapons in 2021, and the oldest was a 67-year-old man convicted of a property crime in 2020.

The offender who was incarcerated the longest was Edward R. Hemmer. He was convicted of homicide in 2002 when he was 21 years old. He is now 42.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
