Rep. Dave Severin recently shared his activities in his district in a Facebook post.
"Two awesome events to share today,” Severin said. “First up was indoor softball for Southern Illinois Special Olympics at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds. Next, I presented a Certificate of Congratulations to Tim Lee at Belle Rive Missionary Baptist Church celebrating 50 years of service to the ministry."
Severin was first elected to the Illinois House in 2017. A Republican, his legislative experience includes serving on the Judiciary Criminal and Mental Health & Addiction Committee. Severin is a state representative who resides in Benton, according to the Illinois House. Severin has served in the Illinois House of Representatives, first for the 117th District, since 2016, according to his website. Redistricting moved Severin to the 116th District.
According to the Chicago-Sun Times, Severin's election to the 116th District in November 2022 was uncontested.
Severin was sworn in on Jan. 11. He also issued a statement on his official website that gives constituents an idea of his priorities.
“Since taking office as state representative, I have voted against the radical liberal agenda of the leftist politicians that now control Illinois government,” Severin said. “As I take over as the state representative of a new territory, the people that I will serve as 116th district state representative should know that I have a record of protecting the right to life, opposing radical abortion laws, opposing radical gun control laws and rejecting laws that have crippled our energy grid and caused our energy bills to spike out of control. I have stood against pay raises for politicians, I refused to take a pension. I strongly opposed Gov. Pritzker’s massive progressive income tax hike and fought back against his unconstitutional, dangerous and harmful COVID-19 Executive Orders and lockdown mandates time and time again.”
