Illinois state Sen. Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro) recently took to social media to share her experience attending the 2022 Freedom Banquet in Carbondale.
“Great evening at the 2022 NAACP Freedom Banquet, Carbondale, Illinois,” Bryant said in an Oct. 23 Facebook post. “This year my friend Marilyn Tipton was honored.”
The sold-out event was the first public gathering of the NAACP’s Carbondale branch in approximately two and a half years, a report from The Southern Illinoisan said.
The banquet was held at the Carbondale Civic Center and revolved around the theme “Lift Every Voice.” It featured a dinner and a keynote speech from Fresh Perspectives CEO Ron Bullock. Additionally, Tipton was honored for her contributions to the community.
In the June primary election, Bryant ran unopposed in her efforts to continue serving the residents of District 58, a JournalStar report said.
