Illinois State Rep. Paul Jacobs (R-Pomona) is reflecting on his re-election campaign.
"As your State Representative, I have prided myself on being a thoughtful, common sense conservative that you can be proud of," Jacobs said. "I think the job requires someone that can exhibit maturity even in the toughest of situations. As you can see, my opponent's campaign has resorted to some rather sophomoric tactics in the last couple of weeks. I'm working hard to earn your vote and your trust based on my solid, reliable, conservative record. Playing silly games won't get the job done."
In recent weeks, Jacobs has spoken out about the leaked Supreme Court draft opinion that could overturn Roe v. Wade, according to Carbondale Reporter.
"I am a pro-life Republican and the only physician of any kind serving in the Illinois General Assembly," Jacobs, an optometrist, said in the statement. "I value life and worked for forty years to improve the quality of life for my patients, both young and old. I am a father and a grandfather. Life is beautiful and it must be protected. Unfortunately, left-leaning politicians currently running our government have enacted laws that make Illinois an abortion destination state where someone can have an abortion paid for by the taxpayer for any reason at any time of pregnancy up to and including birth."
According to Carbondale Reporter, Jacobs has also announced endorsements for his re-election campaign, and about the need to stop catalytic converter theft, clean up corruption in the state, and repeal the SAFE-T Act.
"I am pleased to have the endorsement of the Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois. I will continue to stand up for those who risk so much to protect us," Jacobs posted.
Since he announced his re-election bid in September 2021, Jacobs has sponsored bills to combat catalytic converter theft and to repeal the SAFE-T Act. He has also spoken out about the need for ethics reform after the indictment of former Speaker of the House Michael Madigan.
South West Illinois News reported that in May, Jacobs invited constituents for a "Pints and Politics" fundraiser. Last September, Jacobs announced his re-election bid, according to WSILTV.
"We must address our financial obligations, stop spending money we don't have, and take positive steps to lower taxes and stop self-serving politicians from further damaging the reputation of our state," Jacobs said. "We lost people in the last decade, one of only three states to lose population. My conservative record stands for itself and I am proud to be running for re-election as State Representative to continue to represent the values and views of the people of Southern Illinois."
