Illinois state Rep. Patrick Windhorst (R-Metropolis) revealed that Carbondale will host a career fair soon.

The Egyptian Building Trades Expo will occur at Carbondale City Hall, 200 S. Illinois Ave., in Carbondale on May 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to a Facebook post from Windhorst.

“Union membership in the building trades can provide you with a career path that offers high-paying jobs, ongoing training, and great benefits,” Gary Williams, Carbondale city manager, said, according to 97.7. “If you’re looking for an exciting career where you’ll work on a wide range of projects, please take this opportunity to learn more about what our local unions can offer.”

The career expo will provide training opportunities to those seeking a career in union trades, including electricians, plumbers, roofers, and more, 97.7 reported.

“The training is free and the jobs provide high wages, health insurance, and pension benefits,” Tate Wright, business representative for Local 702, IBEW said, according to 97.7. “There are few places where people can learn a craft without being strapped with thousands of dollars of student debt. And best of all, you can earn while you learn with on-the-job training. We are excited to have this opportunity to showcase what union construction trades can offer.”
