Arcola Community Unified School District 306 Board Finance Committee Met April 28.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

Present: Tom Mulligan, Superintendent; Board Members: Dr. Robert Arrol, Lucas Shonkwiler, Sue Stout, Craig Wesch, Jim Crane and Chad Strader:

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm.

Dr. Mulligan provided an overview of the various bids for the district property and liability insurance. The committee will recommend Selective to replace Liberty Mutual as the district provider for the 21-22 school year. This will save the district around $15,000.

Dr. Mulligan presented on a copier renewal proposal from Watts Copies. He presented a financial analysis that indicates the district can replace the current copiers with new ones at about the same annual cost.

Dr. Mulligan presented information on a postage meter renewal for the high school. He recommends a five-year lease with Pitney Bowes.

Dr. Mulligan presented information on the district’s approach to buying natural gas. He presented various options including a customized approach, a managed approach and a pooled approach. The committee wants to see rates on the May and then June meeting dates. The committee seemed to prefer a customized approach where the district locks into 100% of their usage. The district is currently on a managed approach and was hit with significant charges when the district used over their allotted amount in February.

The committee discussed whether or not to bid for the bank depository again. There was a discussion about the direct deposit fee charged by the Arcola First Bank. The majority of the committee does not want to bid the depository for another year.

The committee then discussed school lunch prices and student fees. The committee recommends increasing student lunch prices by $.15. They also recommended to continue eliminating students fees for the 21-22 school year, with the exception of technology device insurance.

Dr. Mulligan presented information on the ESSR Grants from the federal government. He presented goals and ideas for spending related to all three grants. Funds can be spent through the 2023-2024 school year.

The finance committee meeting adjourned at 8:55 pm.
