Communications

Mitch Burdick, Jackson County Highway Department, reported all the work that they have been doing and are still doing during the recent snow storm. Lots of extra hours being put in to make sure the roads in Jackson County are safe for travel.

Agency Reports

Peterson: Greater Egypt Regional Planning and Development

The Greater Egypt commission met by zoom on February 9, 2021. The staff is working on a USDA RBDG (Rural Business Development Grant) application to assist local businesses. Also, the staff expects that EDA will have more funding available for new COVID relief.

Southern Illinois Metropolitan Planning Organization

The SIMPO Policy Committee did not meet in February.

Shawnee R, C & D Area Council 

The Shawnee Council met by zoom on February 11, 2021. They are working on a ten year strategic plan. Ongoing projects include oak tree ecosystem restoration, invasive species eradication, education on forests and invasive species, and stewardship partnerships with private owners.

Mueller:

JGA met on February 2, 2021 by webinar that was hosted by the Carbondale Public Library.

Erbes:

UCCI, no January meeting but will follow up with a webinar. Registration and itineraries have been sent out to get ready for conference in June.

Chairman Report

Chairman Larkin spoke to Sherriff Burns and he wanted to recognize the staff of the Courthouse for all their hard work during Covid-19 and the recent snow storm.

A motion was made by Peterson, and seconded by Erbes to approve as amended.
