Veteran U.S. Rep. Mike Bost (R-Illinois) viewed the $1.9 trillion federal stimulus plan as an outlier in every way.
"We actually worked with them with the five other COVID relief bills," Bost said during a recent WJPF Radio appearance. "This sixth COVID relief bill, or not COVID relief bill, includes billions for poorly run states, billions that keep people from going back to work, and there's no Hyde Amendment that says anytime we're spending money that money federal money should not go toward funding abortions if you don't believe in that."
Beyond that, Bost said there was money left over from some of the previous bills that make much of the spending in the new one a waste.
"They can claim it's about COVID all they want, but there was money left over; we still have money left over," Bost said. "One concern is the policy of this administration, with all the money they're handing out, will cause the rapid growth of inflation."
In the end, Bost said it all adds up to just one thing: a bailout.
"They're no oversights," he said. "You can hand this money to the state of Illinois, and they can use it for whatever they want. If they want to bail out the pension funds, they can."
