Q3 2020 Recap: 3 parolees from Jackson County convicted of drug crimes set for release

There were three offenders convicted of drug crimes released on parole in Jackson County during the third quarter of 2020, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Carbondale Reporter.

The data shows that two men and one woman were among the parolees. Of the parolees sentenced for drug crimes, one was a veteran, and the median age was 50. The youngest parolee was a 45-year-old man sentenced in 2019, and the oldest was a 58-year-old woman sentenced in 2019.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was James E. Bailey Jr. He was convicted in 2019 when he was 46 years old. He is now 48.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
