Brent Miller, a Century High School teacher, recently received attention from state Rep. Patrick Windhorst (R-Metropolis) after being awarded an Illinois Schoolyard Habitat Action Grant.
The $1,000 grant goes toward the pollinator garden that Miller is developing at the school.
"Congratulations to Century High School and Ag Teacher Brent Miller for the school being awarded an Illinois Schoolyard Habitat Action Grant for a pollinator garden!" Windhorst said in a Facebook post.
The grant is made possible through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Windhorst said.
"The grant is a program of the Department of Natural Resources and supports the development or enhancement of wildlife habitat on school grounds or other public places," he said.
The grant was one of 43 made across the entire state, ranging from $240 for a butterfly garden in Bureau County to several schools that received the full $1,000, as Century High School did.
Windhorst's announcement received only congratulatory comments from residents around the community, congratulating both Miller and his students on the achievement.
