The Carbondale Chamber of Commerce is helping local businesses during the holiday season as new restrictions are put into effect for the COVID-19 pandemic, WSIL-TV reported.
During the pandemic, the Chamber of Commerce has been prompting residents to shop locally to boost the local economy. The chamber is continuing to encourage residents in the area to shop at small, local businesses during the season as part of the "Small Business Saturday" initiative on Nov. 28.
Tom Davenport, the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce CEO, said holiday shopping can still be fun and enjoyable this year as long as customers remember to follow guidelines and restrictions and wear masks and social distance in stores.
"The things that small business will have problems with is if we go back to a stay-at-home order because [a] small business makes 50% of their income in November and December," Davenport told WSIL-TV. "And if some reason they lose the month of December, that's bad news."
To help with the initiative, Davenport said the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce would update its website to list what small, local businesses are offering this season to help residents in the area with their holiday shopping.
