Ava VFD responds to 12 fires in 2018

Ava Volunteer Fire Department responded to 12 calls in 2018 - same as the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Ava included 12 fires - nine structure fires, one vehicle fire and two other fires.

In all, the department saw $21,000 in fire loss - or about $1,750 per fire.

The Savanna Firefighters Pension Fund, which has two active employees and four retired or inactive employees, was $103,734 in debt as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $8,645 for every fire in 2017.
