Murphysboro FD responds to 52 fires in 2018

Murphysboro Fire District responded to 104 calls in 2018 - 2.8 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Murphysboro included 52 fires - 31 structure fires, seven vehicle fires and 14 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $741,100 in fire loss - or about $14,252 per fire.

The department also received 51 false calls, including two malicious calls and 49 other false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related injuries.

The Murphysboro Fire District had an annual budget of $177,609 in 2018.

The Murphysboro Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 11 active employees and 11 retired or inactive employees, was $59,038 in debt as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $1,054 for every fire in 2017.
