ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 55: Moylan Applauds Investment in COVID-19 Response Job Creation

Cc

Illinois State House District 55 issued the following announcement on Sept. 11.

DES PLAINES, Ill. – State Rep Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, is lauding the recent $16 million investment to provide over 1,000 unemployed Illinois residents with jobs aiding in the response effort toward the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The COVID-19 crisis continues to impact the health and economic stability of Illinois residents, affecting thousands of jobs,” Moylan said. “During this unprecedented crisis, actions that stimulate economic growth are needed, as well as comprehensive protective measures to contain the virus. This new economic investment will strengthen the COVID-19 response in our state and provide much-needed jobs to residents who lost employment as a result of COVID-19.”

Gov. J.B. Pritzker recently announced a $16.6 million investment to train and hire nearly 1,300 residents who lost their jobs as a result of the pandemic. The investment will provide training and employment for Illinoisans to join local disaster relief programs. Such positions include contact tracers, COVID-19 protocol workers, sanitation workers, temperature screeners and food preparation and distribution workers. The funding will be distributed across seven regions of Illinois to 12 Local Workforce Innovation Areas (LWIAs).

Training and hiring of applicants is expected to begin in the fall. The LWIA local to Moylan’s district is the Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership serving Cook County. More information about available jobs and training programs for the Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership can be found at https://chicookworks.org/.

“While this is not a permanent solution to the thousands of Illinoisans who lost their jobs during the pandemic, it will provide some jobs for residents who need to get back to work as soon as possible,” Moylan said. “I look forward to implementing further job assistance programs to keep Illinois residents employed during this unprecedented crisis.”
