Carbondale Police are investigating a number of burglaries in the city relating to automobiles that have been left unlocked or unattended.

A police press release reminds residents to make sure they lock their car doors because this is the best way to prevent theft from cars. Police also suggest that cars be parked in well-lit areas and that items such as purses and backpacks should not be left in plain sight, so as not to tempt burglars.

The department also notes that car owners should always have their alarms activated if their car has one. A final piece of advice is that if car owners lock their cars via a key fob, to always double-check and make sure the car is actually locked.

"By following these easy tips, you can prevent most auto burglaries," police said.
